Niles Eldredge
Biography
Born: August 25, 1943
He began his education at Columbia University studying Latin but switched to study anthropology and began his work at the American Museum of Natural History. In 1965 he graduated from Columbia College of Columbia University and enrolled in the doctoral program. He continued studying and researching at the museum and completed his PhD in 1969. He has published more than 160 scientific articles, books, and reviews.
He is very interested in music and plays the jazz trumpet. He owns more than 500 cornets. He lives in Ridgewood, New Jersey with his wife. He has two sons, two daughters-in-law, and three grandchildren.

1972- the theory that evolution happens in spurts of major genetic changes that last through generations for long periods of time with little change
Darwin's Theory:
evolution happens gradually through time
Punctuated Equilibrium is almost the opposite of Darwin's theory because Eldredge believes evolution happens with a quick change (hundred to thousand years) and lasts for a very long time until another change must happen. Darwin believes evolution is a gradual process and species are becoming more complex at a rate.
