Alfred Russel Wallace was one of the 19th century's most remarkable intellectuals. He lived from (1823 - 1913). He was born in in Monmouthshire, England. He was the eighth child. When he was small he was taken out of grammer school and was forced to move to London with his brother, John. Many years later he co-discovered the process of evolution by understanding natural selection. Also, around that time he made many contributions to biology, glaciology, land reform, anthropology, ethnography, epidemiology, and astrobiology. He wrote a book called The Malay Archipelago. This book is one of the most celebrated travel writings of that century. It has also never been out of print. After his death he was considered the world’s most famous scientist. He was really important to the idea and theory of evolution and without him would not have a good understanding of evolution today.
